THE ROUTE
3 days
Day 1: Beauvoisin / Aigues-Mortes - 48 km
We'll start from the costières de Nîmes with a first hilly part on stony paths where vines and orchards follow one another. It isn't very high up, but the viewpoints offer us a spectacle that extends for kilometers over the surrounding mountains, such as the Cévennes or the Alpilles, but also over the entire immensity of the Camargue. We'll then progress to the plains, where we'll make the first contact with the region and its people. Next, stop at Saint Laurent d'Aigouze, an authentic town and above all, the heart of the Camargue bullfighting. In the afternoon, we'll reach the Carbonnière tower which proudly stands in the middle of the marshes. After discovering Aigues-Mortes and its fortifications, we take advantage of a guided tour of "La Marette" (Maison du Grand Site de France) to learn more about the landscapes, traditions, and natural environment of the Gard. Make sure you listen carefully, as you may well hear some of the answers to the questions that will be asked during the evening quiz aperitif!
Day 2: Aigues-Mortes / Saintes-Marie-de-la-mer - 48 km
This second day will be all about adventure. We'll take some hidden paths and plunge into the heart of the wild Camargue. The electric assistance of our mountain bikes will be invaluable on some parts, and we'll quickly get caught up in the thrilling sights of the surrounding nature. The flying fauna and the typical flora of the salt marshes will guide us all the way. Before noon, we'll stop at a herd. This French-style ranch will invite us in to teach us about the traditional job of a manadier. Did you know that the Camargue is the only place in France where animals are raised for sport? After a tasty meal with our hosts, we'll take the direction of Saintes-Maries-De-La-Mer for a short afternoon of pure driving. Finally, we'll take the time to stroll through the streets of Les Saintes, the capital of the Camargue.
Day 3: Saintes-Marie-de-la-mer / Beauvoisin - 51 km
On this last day, we'll take a long track of several kilometers, transitioning between the salty marshes and the Camargue's arable lands, those which host the rice crops. We'll also take the opportunity to visit the rice house and learn a little more about its unique culture. To end this journey and reach Beauvoisin, we'll follow the canals along paths dotted with thickets teeming with bamboo and open tracks where the late afternoon light offers a magnificent perspective on the Camargue horizon.
